Bengals, Lady Bengals top NJCAA Polls

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Both the Lady Bengal Softball team and Bengal Baseball sit at the top of the NJCAA polls. The Lady Bengals are ranked 3rd in the country, while the Bengals are the top ranked baseball team in the country.
BASEBALL
LSU Eunice continued its winning ways, moving to 30-5 on the season after going 3-2 since the last poll was released on March 17. The Bengals defeated McHenry (Ill.) 10-4 on March 20 and then split a two game set with Division I Delgado (La.) 5-11 and 13-3 on March 20 and 21. Last weekend they split with Division I Baton Rouge (La.) 12-2 and 0-1.
Chance Mistric and Mitchell Hopkins both picked up victories over the five game stretch for the Bengals. Mistric got the victory against McHenry and Baton Rouge to improve his season record to 6-0. Hopkins got the win over Delgado to move his record to 8-0 on the season.
Offensively, Raph Rhymes has been swinging a hot bat for the Bengals. Over the last five games the freshman has 11 hits and seven RBI.
The second NJCAA Division II Baseball Poll of the 2010 season has the Bengals are followed by Western Oklahoma State College and Lurleen B. Wallace Community College (Ala.). All three programs advanced to the DII World Series last season.
SOFTBALL
The NJCAA Division 2 Softball Poll first poll of the season has been released. In the top spot is Phoenix College (Ariz.), coming in at No. 2 is Iowa Central College, and in at No.3 is Louisiana State University-Eunice.
LSU Eunice rounds out the top three with a record of 33-5. The Bengals are a good hitting team but it's their pitching that carries them. The Bengals pitching staff holds an ERA of 2.29 with 173 strikeouts. The staff is led by sophomore Stacy Sutton who is 12-0 with an ERA of 1.83 and 69 strikeouts. Offensively they are led by freshman Chaney Traham who is currently hitting .500 with seven RBI's and 39 runs scored.
